Launches: VACSATs I & II

Year 2, day 127.

​Mission Objectives:

1. Reach 4.2Mm x 4.1Mm orbit around Kerbin

Crew:

• None

This is our first attempt at launching a satellite into an explicit orbit.

The mission consists of the following steps:

1. Waiting for the proper launch window in order to achieve the proper longitude of ascending node
2. Lifter boosting the probe to a 3.2º inclined suborbital trajectory with an apoapsis of 2.3Mm
3. The probe does two burns to raise the orbit to the desired altitudes

Unfortunately, VACSAT I was launched with the wrong software uploaded to the probe, and the mission was terminated prior to achieving orbit.

The craft automatically determined the proper burn to reach the desired orbit.

Once in its final orbit, the satellite begins tracking the Sun.

This milestone mission hopefully paves the way for more lucrative contracts in the future.
