 Year 5, Day 301. Mission Objectives: We have not heard from either kerbal in nearly two years.  Enhance.  Enhance.  Optical scans from the station have located their rover on the surface of Minmus. We believe it has enough fuel to reach orbit, where our CFV can rendezvous and dock.  As all vehicles in our program, the rover can be computer controlled, and the remote command to launch is given. We probably should have done this long ago.  After reaching a safe altitude, the rover pitches nose down to begin gaining horizontal velocity.  Once apo reaches 10km, the rover coasts and circularizes.  Now that the rover is in orbit, the CFV undocks from the station with Bill onboard in case of the worst.  We slowly burn past the station to match the rover's inclination.
 Fortunately they were still alive, but we must get them back to Kerbin as soon as possible.  Bill had other plans.  Since they're "down here anyway" he decided to land and fulfil that contract now that the solar panels were installed. Note the fore engines still aren't working.
  The craft performed a couple of burns along the way to match the orbit of Biko 1 before capturing around Kerbin. Unfortunately that was at night so no photos.
 Unfortunately, the RCS thrusters only had enough fuel to drop the periapsis to 60km, so the capsule would have to orbit a couple of times before re-entering.  Flying over KSC on the second re-entry pass. The capsule has been captured and will be landing shortly.  There's no place like home. Mission Summary:
Promotions: Jorrie (Scientist⭐️⭐️), Natalin (Scientist⭐️⭐️) Unfortunately, the news of Jordie's and Natalin's rescues have not been so well received everywhere. A lot of questions are being raised... why were they stranded? Why weren't they rescued sooner? How did they survive? Are they actually alive? The questions have even encompassed the whole program. When are we getting to Duna? All we've done there is a single fly-by. We haven't even sent any kerbals outside Kerbin's SOI. Our limited budget has us wasting time on money grubbing rescue missions instead of performing research or deploying infrastructure. Our scientists say that the research being performed on our moon stations will allow us to build craft capable of sustaining our crew for a three year mission in time for the year 7 transfer. Unfortunately, this doesn't allow an ahead-of-time supply mission if we're going to make it to Duna before year 10. Given these circumstances, we've been directed to focus solely on achieving our goal of reaching Duna, ASAP. It's clear we won't be able to deploy a permanent settlement, but we should be able to pull off an orbit-and-return mission, as well as a few extended duration landings on Ike. However, we need to demonstrate real progress soon, and fast, otherwise our entire program may be cancelled. Comments are closed.
